Spider Exterminator

Spiders are a common nuisance in homes and businesses throughout the Okeene area. Most species are not harmful to people. However, we do have poisonous spiders in the Okeene area that can pose risks to our health. Wetter weather in our area has led to an abundance of mosquitoes and other food sources for them in recent years, and we have seen a substantial increase in the number of them making their way into urban and suburban homes and businesses.

They generally seek out hiding places inside human structures when driven away from their outdoor habitat for any reason. Food and moisture availability is the essential thing these pests search for when they enter buildings. Indoor plants are attractive to them as they match their natural habitat. They also will make their homes in any hiding place where they can stay out of sight.

Okeene is home to the two most dangerous poisonous spiders found in the U.S., the Black Widow and Brown Recluse Spiders.

  • Black Widow Spiders - Black Widow Spiders can cause significant emotional stress because of their notorious large black body and red hourglass abdominal marking. The venom of this spider is a neurotoxin, causing swelling and pain. The worst symptoms of its bite usually occur immediately, with more significant bites causing some continuing pain and nerve trauma. Antivenom is medically available but is often only needed for small children or older adults. Their bite requires tetanus protection, and anyone bitten without up-to-date tetanus vaccination should seek immediate medical attention.

  • Brown Recluse Spiders - Brown Recluse Spiders are not known to cause the same fear as the Black Widow, as they are smaller and more challenging to identify. However, they can be even more dangerous to humans and pets. As the species name indicates, the Brown Recluse prefers to stay hidden away in small spaces where they can remain undisturbed. Their preferred habitat around human dwellings is inside storage boxes, closets, basements, and attics. The venom of the Brown Recluse attacks cells and causes tissue destruction. Their venom can cause more significant damage to young children, the elderly, and any person with a compromised immune system. The bite of this spider can require advanced treatment and even surgery to treat damaged tissue.
